BREAKING: Homes Evacuated As Security Alert Unfolds In North Belfast

Residents in north Belfast have been forced to leave their homes as a live security alert unfolds in the Canning Place area, just off York Street.

Police are currently at the scene with a cordon in place, and a number of properties have been evacuated as a precaution while officers assess the situation. The alert began on Sunday morning, with emergency services moving quickly to secure the area.

The PSNI has urged the public to avoid the area, confirming that evacuations are ongoing as part of the operation. The scale of the response indicates that the situation is being treated seriously as officers work to determine the nature of the alert.

What happens next remains unclear. At this stage, police have not confirmed what triggered the operation, but specialist teams are expected to assess the scene before any further updates are given.

Scenes like this develop quickly. Families have been forced out of their homes with little warning, highlighting once again how security alerts continue to disrupt communities across Northern Ireland/The North.

There has been no confirmation of injuries and no arrests have been reported at this stage.

The focus now remains on the ongoing operation and when residents will be allowed to return to their homes once the area is declared safe.
