

A man has been accused of carrying out a violent hammer attack on a woman inside her own home in west Belfast, according to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
Police said the incident occurred in the Springfield Avenue area of west Belfast in the early hours of Sunday 2 November, when a man and a woman allegedly entered a property and attacked the female occupant. Officers received a report of the assault shortly before 5.30am.
Detectives say the male suspect allegedly struck the woman on the head several times with a hammer during the incident. The victim was inside her home at the time of the attack. Damage was also reported inside the property, including to an interior door and a television.
Police quickly launched an investigation and later arrested a man aged in his 40s and a woman aged in her 30s in connection with the incident. The pair were detained on suspicion of a number of serious offences.
According to police, the arrests relate to suspected aggravated burglary, criminal damage, attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, and inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Detectives said both suspects were taken into custody where they were being questioned by officers as part of the ongoing investigation.
The PSNI has not released the identity of the victim, but confirmed that enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Officers have asked anyone who may have been in the Springfield Avenue area around 5.30am on 2 November and who saw anything suspicious to contact police.
