A large quantity of cocaine with an estimated street value of €5.25 million has been seized by Gardaí during a major drugs operation, with two men arrested in connection with the discovery.
The drugs were uncovered during a targeted search operation carried out by officers from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB). Gardaí said the seizure was made as part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity linked to the importation and distribution of illegal drugs.
The cocaine haul was discovered during searches conducted at a property in County Meath on Friday, where officers located a significant quantity of the drug concealed inside the premises.
According to Gardaí, the drugs seized have an estimated street value of €5.25 million, making it one of the larger cocaine seizures recorded in the region in recent months.
Two men were arrested at the scene of the search operation. Gardaí confirmed that the suspects are currently being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, which allows for extended questioning in serious drug trafficking investigations.
The men are being held at Garda stations in the Eastern Region, where detectives are continuing to question them as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators believe the seizure may be linked to a wider organised crime network involved in the movement and distribution of cocaine across Ireland.
The drugs seized will now be sent for forensic examination and analysis, while Gardaí continue to gather evidence as part of their investigation.
Authorities say further arrests have not been ruled out as enquiries continue.
