A man described in court as a violent attacker has been jailed after ripping out his former partner’s hair extensions while dragging her around a house during a domestic assault.
Ronnie Waller carried out the attack on the woman inside a property in east Belfast, Belfast Crown Court heard.
The court was told the incident occurred after Waller forced his way into the house where the woman was staying. Once inside the property he launched a sustained assault on his former partner.
Prosecutors said Waller grabbed the woman by the hair and ripped out her hair extensions during the attack, before dragging her around the house.
The victim was left terrified during the ordeal and later managed to report the incident to police.
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) investigated the attack and Waller was subsequently arrested and charged.
During the hearing at Belfast Crown Court, the prosecution outlined the details of the assault and the distress caused to the victim.
The judge described the incident as a serious act of domestic violence and imposed a custodial sentence, stating that the level of violence involved meant prison was unavoidable.
Domestic abuse cases continue to be treated as serious offences by courts across Northern Ireland/The North, with authorities repeatedly encouraging victims to report incidents and seek support.
