Police In 17-Hour Standoff With Man On Antrim Area Hospital Roof

Police In 17-Hour Standoff With Man On Antrim Area Hospital Roof

Police remain in a prolonged standoff with a man who climbed onto the roof of Antrim Area Hospital and has refused to come down, with the incident now stretching into its seventeenth hour.

Emergency services were first called to the scene shortly before 10:30pm on Saturday night, when police and fire crews responded to reports of a man on the roof of the main hospital building in Antrim.

On arrival, officers discovered the man positioned on the rooftop, where he has remained since, refusing repeated requests to come down.

Police have spent the majority of the night attempting to negotiate with him, with specialist officers working to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.

The standoff has continued into Sunday, with a visible police presence still in place around the hospital as efforts remain focused on resolving the situation without harm.

Fire crews have also been involved, supporting the operation as emergency services manage the risks associated with a person remaining at height for an extended period.

Hospital services have continued during the incident, though the presence of emergency crews has led to a controlled environment around parts of the site.

Incidents of this nature can take significant time to resolve, with negotiators working carefully to build communication and encourage a safe outcome.

The situation remains ongoing, with police still at the scene as the standoff continues.
